![]() Hunter continues to live and work in Hamilton, and is a sessional instructor at the University of Waterloo. She is the recipient of several grants and awards, and her work was recently featured in Blackflash Magazine as an honourable mention for the Optic Nerve Image Contest. Her work has been presented in numerous exhibitions in Canada and the United States, and in 2017 she completed a permanent public art installation commissioned by the City of Kitchener. She holds an MFA from the University of Waterloo and a BA in Visual Art with a Concentration in Curatorial Studies from Brock University. The Nikon Coolpix P900 (2000mm) and P1000 (3000mm), with their massive zoom lenses, can capture great solar (and moon) images. As in the case of the Rorschach cards, each photograph provides the room for interpretation, offering contradictory and complicit narratives stemming from. Natalie Hunter is an emerging artist who grew up in Hamilton, Ontario. Sun photography is not demanding when it comes to the camera. Alluding to enduring routines and the passage of time, these works, as Hunter describes, “touch on how traces of our interior, most private spaces linger in our minds long after we’ve left them behind.” Luminous and transient, the viewer’s experience of the works shifts with subtle changes in light and environment. Using vibrant colour filters in her process, Hunter layers multiple exposures taken minutes or hours apart, and prints on transparent and translucent films that she hangs, ripples, and drapes to interact with architectural and ambient characteristics of the exhibition space. For this body of work, Hunter photographed windows in familiar rooms of her childhood home, revealing intimate interiors that frame views of the external world. Using light as a material in her photo-based sculptures and installations, Natalie Hunter explores the relationship between memory and physical space. Standing on a Beach (titled Staring at the Sea in CD format in some countries) is a singles compilation album released by English rock band The Cure in May 1986, marking a decade since the bands founding in 1976. The title “Staring at the Sun” seemed fitting for this photograph of a sunset on the Irish coast. The pointy cliffs stand out much better, and the scenery is less busy because of it.
